Dan Hinegardner 65, died at 11:07 a.m. on Friday October 14, 2016 at St. Rita's Medical Center. On October 4th, 1974 he married Pat Krites who survives in Uniopolis, Ohio.

He was born on July 4th, 1951 in Allen County to William and Opal (Laing) Hinegardner. They both preceded him in death.

Dan worked for over 35 years at Ford Lima Engine Plant serving as Chairman of the UAW Local 1219. For the past 8 years he worked for International Union UAW Region 2-B. He retired in May of 2016 after saving hundreds of jobs and protecting workers rights. He was also a dairy farmer for many years, and loved the outdoors. In his free time he loved to hunt, cut firewood, and spend time with his 5 grandkids.

Dan is survived by his children: Josh (Rebecca) Hinegardner of Lima, Amanda (Josh) Laird of Lima, 5 grandkids Jordan, Austin, Gavin, Olivia, and Anthony who all attend school at St. Charles Catholic School and Lima Central Catholic. Brothers Bill (Doris) Hinegardner of Dayton, Dick (Martha) Hinegardner of Cridersville, He was preceded in death by his brother Don (Sue) Hinegardner, Sue still survives in Wapakoneta, Ohio.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday October 18th, 2016 at the UAW Hall 777 Bible Road Lima, Ohio 45801 from 3-7p.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to UAW Local 1219 Chairman c/o Hinegardner Memorial Tree Fund 1440 Bellefontaine Ave Lima, Ohio 45804. Trees will be planted in his honor at the UAW Park to remember his love for his job and the outdoors.

To Danny's Family,
I have known and loved Danny for most of my life. We lived on Sugar Street and went to school and played together non-stop. Danny's love for horses and 4-H took him to the Dunlap Farm. I believe that every kid in town spent their early years with Bill and Bea Dunlap and their girls Paula, Suzie and Jeannie. I found some photos from our year books. What great memories I have. Can you believe it - Danny - 1958 part of the Homecoming Court. Thank you Danny, for being my friend from the beginning. april

Pat,
My heart goes out to you and your family for your loss. I appreciated reading about Dan's love of the outdoors.
We have not been in touch since high school but I remember our 12 years in school fondly. You and Pam were always such a positive presence. I am sure you miss her even now.

I will always remember going to rallies with Dan. Being at Black Lake the same week that he was a few years ago. Attending Lima/Troy CAP Meeting together. I will miss him very much, even though I didn't really have the honor of knowing him very well at all.
