Byron A. Kerr age 99, of Lima passed away Sat. Dec. 2, 2017 at Primrose Retirement Community. He was born July 25, 1918 in Allen County to the late Raymond E. and Carroll Marie Graham Kerr. He married June F. Rumbaugh Sept. 10, 1940 and she preceded him in death March 3, 1995.
Byron had been a buyer and merchandise manager for Gregg's Department Store for 43 years. He had served in the Merchant Marines at the end of WW II. He was a member of Perry United Methodist Church and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1935.
Survivors include 2 sons: Larry B. (Bonnie) Kerr of Elyria, OH, Thomas A. (Kathy) Kerr of Lima; 3 daughters: Linda (Billy D.) Epps of Lima, Debra S. Kerr of Sidney and Barbara J. Kerr of Sidney; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters: Ruth Werling of Cridersville and Marilyn (Dave) Armer of Wapakoneta.
Byron was preceded in death by 3 brothers: John E., Raymond Jr. and Harold Kerr, and sisters: Ruby Collins and Helen Long.
Byron cherished his days at Greggs's Department Store and his work family there. He was blessed with many wonderful siblings, friends and neighbors.
Byron's greatest joy was spending time with his children and family. And as he always said throughout his 99 years, "We have a lot to be grateful for".
Thanks to his special friends and caretakers at Primrose.
The family will receive friends 2-6 p.m., Monday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor David Burkhart officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Memorial contributions may be given to Perry United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
