Helen Irene Carlson, age 94 formerly of Cridersville, passed away peacefully November 8, 2016 at her home in Cave Creek, Arizona. She was born February 19, 1922 in Marion, Ohio to the late Arthur W. Coulter and Lavina V. (Drake) Coulter of the Caledonia, Ohio area. She married Homer W. Carlson on October 10, 1942. Their early time together was interrupted by Homer's Navy service in Australia and New Guinea. During this time Helen kept the home fires burning and gave birth to their son Eric.
Helen graduated from Caledonia High School in 1940 as valedictorian where she played basketball and participated in school activities. She was a long time employee and retiree of Sears. She was a member of the Westview United Methodist Church, Cridersville where she was active until her move to Arizona to be near her son, Eric.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Homer Carlson who died June 25, 1986 and her brother Lynn Coulter of Galion, Ohio.
She is survived by her son Eric W. Carlson and his wife Diana of Cave Creek, Arizona, her granddaughter Kathy Ann (Carlson) McKernan and husband E.J., of Lee's Summit, Missouri, her grandson Sergeant First Class Scott W. Carlson of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Also four great-grandchildren Maddie, Parker, Edward and Tucker.
Graveside services will be held at a future date at the Caledonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Cridersville United Methodist Church or the Foothills Caring Corp of Carefree, Arizona.
