John Edward Gerstner, age 85 of Lima and formerly of Cridersville, died at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Wyngate Senior Living. He was born May 1, 1932 in Uniopolis, Ohio; to the late Clayton Paul and Edith Blanche Line Gerstner. On July 1, 1950 he married Patricia Ann Neff who preceded him in death, October 23, 1998.

Mr. Gerstner retired after 25 years as a maintenance supervisor with Ohio Northern University, was a former Perry School Board member, and spent 20 years as a self employed painter. He enjoyed wood working, attending his children's sporting events and musicals, and was a devoted Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Football fan. He will be remembered for the qualities he displayed as a hard worker and his high standards in both life and work, and how he treated people professionally and with respect. Most importantly he was a loyal husband and father.

Survivors include a daughter - Jenny A. (Greg, deceased) Sowers of Lima; 2 sons - John Alan (Elaine) Gerstner of Marysville, Ohio; Cole J. (Cheryl) Gerstner of Severance, Colorado; 4 granddaughters - Alisha (Marc) Nolette, Amanda Gerstner, Shanda (Dustin) Cox, and Hannah (Ryan) Gerstner-Adams; 5 great grandchildren - Bekah Nolette, Keagen Cox, Abbie Nolette, Kale Cox, and Kiah Cox; a brother - Phil Gerstner of Findlay and a sister - Phyllis Roe of Lima.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Rev. Dottie Kaiser will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wapakoneta.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the James Cancer Center in honor of his son, John Gerstner.
