Stained Glass Emblem

Shirley Maxine Emrick, age 86, of Cridersville, passed into her eternal rest late in the evening on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 9:29 p.m. with her family at her side. After battling breast cancer and renal disease for many years she was made comfortable at home and spent these past days surrounded by her family and friends, her home full of love and lots of laughter.

Shirley was born on August 9, 1931 in Clay Township, Auglaize County, Ohio to the late Herman P. and Beatrice C. Marsh Thrush. She grew up on a farm with her older brother, Bernard L. Thrush (who has preceded her in death), where she developed a love of chickens and birds, particularly hummingbirds.

After graduating in 1949 from Blume High School, Shirley went on to work at Fisher Cheese and Dana Corporation and eventually retired as a secretary from B P Chemical in Lima. On October 7, 1951 she married Richard D. Emrick, who preceded her in death on April 24, 2014. They had two sons, Mark and Thomas. In their home, above the fireplace, is a little sign that reads, "A fisherman lives here…with his greatest catch." Truer words were never spoken, she was quite the "catch."

Shirley was a devoted member of the Cridersville United Methodist Church and loved her church family. She also volunteered at the ChKiLo Food Pantry, and was a former member of the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Shirley is survived by her son, Mark A. Emrick of Wapakoneta; three grandchildren; Laura Elizabeth (Emrick) Ford, her spouse Charles D. Ford of West Chester, OH, Ryan Thomas Emrick and his spouse Erin Lee (Riley) Emrick of Kokomo, IN and Jesse Allen Emrick and his spouse Kim Emrick also of Wapakoneta. Shirley also had seven great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Kurt, Haley, Mary Katherine, Damien, Cameron, Charles Alexander, Riley Dean, Annabelle Rose, and Cale Joseph. She was blessed with many nieces and nephews and extended family as well as her equally devoted "adopted" family Terry and Gracie Bailey, their children Ryan, Kevin, and Kristi who gave both Shirley and Dick great pride and joy to be "adopted" grandparents of. Shirley took great pride in her entire family and loved them all.

Sadly however, Shirley was preceded in death by her son Thomas Dean Emrick in October 2012 and often remarked that a parent should never outlive their child. She encouraged her grandchildren frequently to love and cherish their own children and to be grateful for such blessings.
A strong, faithful, funny and beautiful lady, Shirley will be more deeply missed than words can express.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m, Saturday, January 20, 2018
at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.

Memorial services will begin 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2018. at the funeral home. Rev. Casey A. Irwin will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ch-Ki-Lo Food Pantry.
