"Praise the Lord" were the last words of Donald E. Davis, age 83 of rural Wapakoneta, who went to his heavenly home 7:15 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2013. He was born July 6, 1929 in Lima, Ohio to the late Chester and Koneta Moyer Davis. On July 22, 1950 he married Loretta J. Kennedy, his sweetheart of over 62 years, who survives.

Mr. Davis's passion was farming and raising sheep. He retired as a welder from General Dynamics. After graduating in 1947 from Shawnee High School, he enlisted with the U.S. Army. He was a 4-H advisor for 34 years and attended Immanuel Baptist Church.

He is survived by a son – David (Laurie) Davis of Cridersville; 3 daughters – Cynthia (Dan) Smith of Wapakoneta; Sharon (Everett) Gross of St. Johns; Christina (Steve) Davis of New Castle, Delaware; 7 grandchildren – Thad, Keon, Ethan, Tristan, Lauren, Julia, Matthew, Lincoln; 2 step grandchildren – Lindsey, Rian; 5great grandchildren – Ezra, Nevaeh, Alena, Kelsey, Lincoln; 2 step great grandchildren – Olivia, Samanatha; 1 brother – David C. Davis of Cridersville; 2 sisters – Doris Peterson of Whittier, CA; Mary Kornhaus of Mansfield, OH.

A celebration of his life will begin 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Pastor Arthur Alexander will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.

The family will have a sharing of memories from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Allen County 4-H or Immanuel Baptist Church.
